Every groomer deals with anxious dogs. Without a consistent approach, staff either push through and stress the dog further, or stop and find you. This guide gives your team a clear process to follow so they can handle it confidently without interrupting you.
Use it any time a dog shows signs of anxiety on the table such as pulling away, trembling, snapping, or refusing to stand still. The earlier your team recognises the signs and follows a consistent approach, the better the outcome for the dog and the groom.
Stay calm first. Dogs read body language faster than words. A slow breath and relaxed shoulders make more difference than any technique.
Breaks are not failure. A two-minute break with the dog off the table resets their nervous system. Build breaks into the process, not as a last resort.
Note it every time. Notes help us remember what happened to a dog and how we helped them. They also make great customer service touch points.
