Different breeds need different approaches. Newer groomers may not be familiar with the different breeds yet. This template combines a consistent pre-groom process with breed profiles for common dogs in a typical salon with the aim of maintaining consistent standards across all groomers.

When to use it

Use it as a reference for any appointment where the groomer is unsure of the correct cut, blade, or finish for the breed. It is also useful onboarding material for new groomers learning the salon's standards.

Tips

Check the coat before you assume anything. A Cockapoo that has not been groomed in twelve weeks needs a different approach than one that comes in every six. Breed profile first, coat condition second, then decide.

Client preferences override the profile. The breed profiles are defaults, not rules. Always check the record for custom preferences before you reach for a blade.

Flag matting before you start, not at pickup. If the coat condition will affect the finish, the client needs to know before the groom — not when they are standing at the desk expecting something different.
